it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These whiteboards will be essential to completing my dream classroom in which students are able to collaborate and learn from each other. After reading and attending professional developments on Liljedhal's "Building Thiking Classrooms, "as well as reading research about the harmful effects of sitting for long stretches of the day as students often are FORCED to do, I have personally purchased two vertical whiteboards for my class. In short, the pedagogical approach encourages students to work in group of three, on their feet at vertical, erasable whiteboards in which they are instructed to work collaboratively with prompts that promote critical thinking and growth. For many of my students who are immigrants to the United States, working together is not only a better way to learn but also a transformative and powerful way to build community. These whiteboards give students a chance to make mistakes and learn form them-- without shame and without isolation. They will help some of the most curious, most marginalized, and most eager students to learn not only from me, but from each other. So let's get these kids off their tushes, and get them standing and learning with each other!
