Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students struggle with the traditional classroom. As a special education teacher, I see a wide range of students who have minor to serious disabilities, which include diagnosis of Autism, Dyslexia, and other health impairments. ADHD is also a main or additional diagnosis many of my students struggle with on a daily basis, which can make sitting in a classroom a nightmare. I have an overwhelmingly disproportionate amount of boys. My students need to move around a lot!
Moving around is essential for engaging my students in the classroom assignments and keep them learning!
Standardized testing, safety drills, and continuous academic assignments can be frustrating for them and discourage school participation. I love to allow them a chance to get up and move!
When my students are moving and actively engaged they feel good. They understand that school is a place to learn and when they struggle guilt and shame can set in. They want to learn too! They just need a different approach to be successful!
My Project
My students are energetic! They love to talk loud, move their bodies, and test their athletic skills. Getting these manipulatives will help my students think out of the box about school. They will want to come and want to learn!
Moving around the classroom engaging in fun educational and athletic challenges will make my students happy to learn and grow!
They won't be able to wait their turn shooting the letters and numbers with all the nerf supplies! They have asked for these by name and now they will get a chance to learn and compete with each other! It will be awesome to see their faces and watch them learn as they have fun.
Sometimes coming to a special education classroom can be embarrassing or boring but I am looking to change that experience for my students! I want them to have the excitement that learning should have. Games with numbers and letters will help them do math calculations and read.
