My students need books that teach them about people from all over the world to create fun art projects! WE need construction paper, books and more.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students on free or reduced-price meal plans. We have many English Language Learner (ELL) students at our school. Over half of my students are ELL students. Our students come from working families and families that speak other languages at home. Some parents are not able to communicate in English with us, but we do have Spanish-speaking translators on site.
Our staff is very caring and committed to providing a nurturing, fun, and engaging classroom for all our students.
We want students to know that we will be there for them and give them as much as we possibly can. One great thing about our school is that we have one-to-one devices, using iPads or Chromebook computers. For many students, this is the first time they have been able to use and engage with today's technology.
My Project
My students will learn about tolerance by having books about people from all over the world. I have requested "Living in...." series books such as Mexico, Italy, and Australia to name a few. These books will help them understand the different countries and the people that live there. I have also chosen books that teach about kindness and understanding one another such as "Same, Same But Different" and "People". I will use these for read aloud and discussion time. Students will have time to share and reflect about tolerance. All these book will help us have a better understanding of people around us and about people from all over the world.
One of my favorite things to do with my class is art and I know these supplies and books will make the learning more meaningful.
For art projects with tolerance in mind, I have also requested supplies like construction paper, colored copier paper, glue sticks, and ink. These items will help us create art projects about tolerance. Students will use those items to reflect what they have learned about each country or the lesson that the book is trying to teach us.
One art project I have in mind for the supplies(construction paper and glue sticks) is having my students choose a country and write about the people and places there. That particular art project will make a great bulletin board to showcase in our hallway for other classes to view and learn about tolerance as well!
