Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember trying to sit in a school chair ALL DAY? Did you wiggle around in the seat looking for comfort? Today's students squirm, so I am looking for an alternative method to enhance learning in the classroom.
My fifth graders come in all sizes from the "little guy" who looks like a third grader to the "big kid" who thinks he is grown.
Living in an urban environment where indoor exercise may seem foreign, my students have varying learning styles and many are new English learners.
This coming year, our school will undergo renovation. Because of that, these kids will be spending over an hour shuttling across town to a temporary location. It leaves even less time to play at home.
My Project
Incorporating movement in the classroom by using exercise balls and floor mats for stretching will enhance learning for my students. Some students may find sitting on an exercise ball helps to "get the wiggles out" and allows more focus on academics. Others like to stretch out on the floor while reading or writing. It would help get more oxygen to their brains. Good outcome, for sure!
