Help me give my students more power to embrace their own learning. The seating options in my project will allow more students to reach their optimal learning potential.
I currently have class of 23 students with very different learning styles. I am planning on doing a blended learning approach for my students so each can learn at their level. In order to create the best learning environment for my students, I need to continue to offer different seating preferences rather than the typical desk and chair. What is a great learning environment for one of my students, may not be great for all.
My current students, as well as all in the future, will benefit greatly with this project.
Research has proven this type of learning environment creates optimal learner engagement.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work time, they will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students have a few flexible seating options, but I would love to offer more, to continue to motivate my students by making different seating options available to them.
I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
They almost always make good choices about where they sit and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. I have also noticed that letting my students have a choice in where they sit, makes them less disruptive of their peers.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The bands that will hook to the legs of their chairs will help students who constantly need to move to learn. This will eliminate the noise making that happens due to tapping. The yoga balls will allow for movement as well. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. Of course, they can always choose the traditional desk and chair if that works best for them.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us to achieve our learning goals.
