My Students

August starts a new school year with a new bunch of smiling faces. I teach at a Title 1 school. My classroom is made up of a diverse group of Kindergarteners. They come from different backgrounds with a wide range of interests, but very little life experiences. Although majority of my students derive from families of low socioeconomic backgrounds, they are always happy to be at school and eager to learn. As an educator, I want to make sure they have the necessary materials to help them succeed!

My Project

Flexible seating is so imperative in the 21st century classroom. I want to ensure that my students have choices and independent options of where to sit. The flexible seating trend is becoming popular in k-12 classrooms across the country, as teachers are seeing the huge benefits it reaps. Flexible seating transforms the traditional classroom into an inclusive classroom. It’s critical to enhancing the learning of all students. The various seating options stimulate the senses and helps students focus and process information; especially those with ADD, ADHD and other forms of learning disabilities. Flexible seating builds community and collaboration because it encourages students to share and take turns with different seating options. Students can easily pair up in small groups or work independently, if needed.

Other educators have mentioned that items such as the comfy couch has their students happy, relaxed and more engaged in their work.

Research shows that wobble chairs strengthen core muscles and act as a calming agent. Wobble chairs allow students to move about while they learn and can be extremely beneficial for learners who have trouble fidgeting and staying focused.

The purchase of these items will help me give my students the classroom they deserve.
