This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from across the world to learn English and science with me. Experiencing science, not just reading about it, is critical for their language development. Working with millipedes and beetles is a new experience for many of them. It generates excitement and gives students a reason to practice speaking and writing with one another.

Help my students gain confidence with animal care, experimentation, close observation, learning English, and more.

We will begin the year with these insects and arthropods, and take care of them all year long as they help my students learn about science and biology.

To graduate, my students need to present a portfolio with their own original science experiment. It is the culmination of many years of skill-building in the scientific method. We do frequent experiments in many topics: body systems, neuroscience, and animal behavior. These insects will be my students' companions all year on their journey towards their graduation experiment.
