This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” (D. Warlick)
Our students are our future leaders. Help us provide the tools necessary to be great leaders.
Our school is located a few miles from the California-Mexico border in a low socioeconomic area in which access to technology is something a majority of students only get to experience at school.
We are a class of 3rd and 4th graders that are eager about technology and love to learn.
With the curriculum becoming more rigorous, we want to be able to experience the learning first hand and explore it with the resources that are available to us on the world wide web and through apps. From reading, writing, math, social studies, and science, this set of iPads will be so useful for us throughout the school day. Help us make the most of our 3rd/4th grade year with tools that will help us learn and build strong skills as a student.
My Project
Take a peek at what our day could look like with a set of iPads:
8:15-9:15 Power Hour: We would be able to utilize the iPads during this time to practice vocabulary words, high frequency words, cursive writing, and reading ebooks for fluency and aid in comprehension.
9:15-10:15 Daily 3: Literacy centers is when students are working on different tasks while the teacher pulls a small group of students for guided reading. Some students are writing, others are reading independently, and others are working on our vocabulary words that week. A set of iPads would be great during this time to be used as an iPad center for students to have 1-1 time on a device to work on educational apps.
10:45-12:00 Math: 1 iPad per table could allow us to share our work and display it using the Apple TV (already installed in our classroom) to collaborate and share our thinking.
1:20-2:30 Science/Social Studies
We can bring our learning to life by being able to research topics at our fingertips!
This project will help my classroom immensely as the students will be more engaged in their learning, motivated to take initiative in their academic progress, and allow them to experience technology in a safe and controlled setting.
Students will practice 21st century skills as they apply to the Common Core State Standards and grow their skill set as a student. The learning will be interactive, fun, and most importantly, valuable!
