My Project

My 6th grade students are mostly

English Language Learners and reading non-fiction text sometimes comes as a challenge.

Adding TIME for Kids throughout the week has many benefits!

TIME for Kids encourages student engagement by covering topics that interest 6th graders like technology, sports, science, pop culture, and more. Short, well-written articles keep students’ attention while promoting reading stamina.

Articles are written in clear, student-friendly language that makes complex topics understandable. They include photos, captions, charts, and illustrations that help ENL learners connect text to meaning.

Additionally, its magazine style format offers culturally relevant topics that provide essential background for future academic success.

Finally, articles can be used as a springboard for structured conversations, group work, or partner reading and encourages ENL students to express ideas, ask questions, and build confidence in spoken English. They provide high-utility academic and content vocabulary and exposes students to meaningful contexts while supporting vocabulary acquisition and retention.
