Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classes have close to 30 students in each classroom. My challenge is to keep our students motivated and interested in reading. I have found that by incorporating technology and learning games into daily instruction, my students retain the information learned and are excited about learning.

I work in a second grade classroom with a high number of EL students.

Our school is a Title 1 school where most of the students receive free lunch. Our students are currently performing below grade level on Language Arts state tests and they are struggling with the English language. Most of the students I work with do not have any computers at home. These language arts computer games will allow them to use technology on a daily basis and work on standards based curriculum.

My Project

We work on reading in small groups. While I teach a group of students, the others are involved in various literacy-related activities. One of the things children like to do best is play games. I need to increase the collection of technology games for the Smartboard to keep children motivated to learn. I want the interactive games that are standards based and work on the skills we are learning in class. Each of these games will help students master the skills required for second grade. Playing technology games also helps children learn interpersonal skills. They learn to be problem solvers, take turns, share, and communicate with one another.

By providing these materials, you will help my students to develop the literacy skills they need to become good readers as well as incorporating the use of technology.

Not only will they learn essential reading skills but they will also use communication skills, be engaged in their learning, and learn how to be problem solvers while working with others. These interactive CD games will be used this year and for many years to come in my classroom.
