Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. They include students that live in our diverse Venice neighborhood as well as students who are bussed in form many different neighborhoods in the greater Los Angeles area. Many of them spend as much as 2.5 hours traveling to and from school on the school bus. They represent a wide variety of academic abilities and interests.
Our school is Title 1, meaning that over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
For my students, our classroom is a safe, clean place to spend their days. Many of them seek the safe space of the classroom before school or at recess. They depend on the classroom as a safe space and I strive to make it a place that is safe for learning, socializing, and growing.
My students are a very spirited group. They majority of my students come from homes where English is not the first language and many are the children of immigrants. In my classroom we work to create space for all of their diverse life experiences and needs.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of outdoor equipment including playground balls, volleyballs and soccer cones. This equipment will help my students get outside and play some great games on the yard. New balls will encourage them to play some of their favorite games at recess and will allow me to teach them some new games for PE. This equipment will help in getting my students up and moving in fun way.
The value of play cannot be underestimated and getting our kids outside to play is so important.
My students are noticeably more focused when they have time to go outside and engage in productive play. This equipment will allow me to teach my students games that they can play at all levels of ability.
