Help me give my students an outdoor classroom. With these folding chairs, we can hold our ELA sessions in an outdoor classroom in various areas around our school campus.
Our students live in the rural area of northeast Georgia. They are an amazing group of kids who are full an excitement for academic and social learning. Our students spend much of their time enjoying their small mountain community, attending local sporting events, or enjoying time with family and friends.
Each day with our 8th grade students is an adventure in education, as they thrive in learning environments that are academically challenging, authentic, and engaging.
Our students inspire us daily to be better educators, and our school community continuously strives to meet their learning needs.
My Project
This school year we want to bring a "breath of fresh air" into our classroom by taking our students outside for ELA lessons. The outdoor environment naturally lends itself as the perfect classroom setting for our ELA lessons that focus on joint productive groupings, writing with inspiration and detail, and reading with engagement.
Studies show that teaching in the outdoor setting increases engagement and reduces stress while inspiring students and encouraging positive social interactions.
The equipment provided through this project will allow flexible grouping and will encourage collaboration of two ELA classes in the outside environment.
What better place to study "The Road Not Taken" than sitting along a path and discussing it with peers? Could there be a more inspirational setting to write a narrative the oak tree in front of the school library? On a beautiful fall day, would you rather read Poe in a classroom with 4 walls or in a camping chair with the crisp wind blowing leaves around your feet? These chairs will provide a unique opportunity to manipulate an unlimited number of environments (football field, parking lot, grassy fields, hallways, gym, breezeway, lawn, etc) and various groupings (whole group, small group, pairs, and individual) in a way that will make the entire school campus available to us as a classroom!
