This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine you are a P.E. teacher at a brand new school and have planned all these great units, but you come to the first day of work for teachers and find you that you have nothing to work with. The goal of this project is to have one of those units, field hockey, funded for the students.
EA is a brand new charter school in East Las Vegas that serves roughly 500 students from grade 6-10.
Most of my students are in 6th, 9th and 10th grades. Almost every student receives free or reduced-price lunch. Prior our school was the first five-star school in East Las Vegas. These students have exhibited success. It is my hope that these students will show growth in a sport they have never seen or played before.
My Project
These materials will serve in our unit of field hockey. My students have never played or frankly had never heard of field hockey, so this will be quite the experience. It is my hope that students will find a new sport to love.
As with all of my units, students are exposed to the rules, proper playing etiquette, the history, how to referee, how to keep score, and even how to write like a sports columnist about field hockey.
As a brand new school with no materials, this project will help fund one of my units this year.
What is nice about this project is that it will be used year after year. Also, this could lead to a club or maybe even a team at the school, because of this project. This project has the possibility of changing the lives of my students forever, just like that one sport (or many) changed your life!
