My Students

My students come from a low-income community where 100% receive free school breakfast and lunch. Most of my students are multi-generational in that their parents and grandparents attended the same school when they were kids. While a lot of the them have their own stories to tell, one thing they all have in common is their excitement for new learning.

I always tell my kids that my job is to teach them and help them become the BEST versions of themselves!

Just over half of my kiddos have learning accommodations for their daily instruction. Despite this, they come in hug-ready with a smile on their faces because they know that I love them unconditionally.

My Project

One of the greatest influences that we have on students in today's classrooms is the way that we make them FEEL about education. This is something that will forever shape their future as a learner. It's time to stretch myself, push the limits, and step outside of my comfort zone as I work to take my ordinary content and make it extraordinary for my students.

It's not true engagement without equal parts fun and academic rigor.

During GYTO, I will be learning instructional practices that are directly aligned to Common Core Standards. These best practices will increase my students desire to learn, amp up my academic rigor, and challenge them to think beyond the standards!
