Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are not as active as I was a child and I believe it is due to lack of opportunity and appropriate equipment. As 8th graders they are provided one recess period a day aside from their elective and I desire to change that because they are still kids.
The new equipment provided from this project will enable students to grow socially, physically, and emotionally.
Firstly, all the provided equipment requires student communication which will allow students to become comfortable with playing with someone they aren't friends with but experience genuine fun. Playing together will increase social confidence which my students are in need of.
Secondly, the provided equipment will engage students to be physically active. Unfortunately, many young people are sedentary due to family obligations, lack of Interest and exposure. Jump rope, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball are all high impact sports they will have access to enabling my students to grow physically. I am also hoping that access to the sports equipment will ignite an interest that they'll continue playing when they begin their high school careers the following year as freshmen.
Thirdly, the sports equipment will enable students to relieve pent up aggression, stress, anxiety, or frustration that might be otherwise bottled up emotions due to daily interactions. I'm hoping that students are able to experience success by playing, proving that a growth mindset is relevant in all areas of life.
