This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a diverse home setting. Many of my students are raised by single parent families or grandparents and live in government housing. This project will allow them to be exposed to soccer and other activities beyond what they get at home.
My students already enjoy being active but the soccer equipment and stacking cups would enhance their motivation and get them moving.
There are materials that both boys and girls would enjoy at all three grade levels. Any activity I can teach that will last a lifetime is a bonus! The jump ropes will allow me to teach both boys and girls a lifelong activity.
My Project
This past year I had to borrow stacking cups from other schools and this project will allow my students the flexibility to have this equipment all year. Physical education and health are life long subjects. The stacking cups will be great not only for hand-eye coordination but also allows students to incorporate their left and right brains. Studies have shown that crossing the midline can help with reading and writing.
I teach in an urban setting and many of my students are not exposed to a variety of sports besides basketball and football.
Having soccer goals and soccer balls, I will be able to introduce the sport to them which will expand their knowledge and skills for soccer.
