My Project

Tchoukball (pronounced "chook") is a nontraditional sport that uses transferrable skills like throwing, catching, and teamwork to bring students of all abilities together. This sport is very inclusive, in that students are not limited by uncontrollable factors (like height) given there is no defense in play. The inclusivity and the fact that this is a totally new game for my students puts everyone on a more level playing field which, in turn, typically boosts participation and effort by all.

The CDC reports that, "Students who are physically active tend to have better grades, school attendance, cognitive performance (memory), and classroom behaviors ( on-task behavior).

My hope is that the implementation of more nontraditional games, like tchoukball, will boost excitement and participation in my class. If my expectation for this project becomes a reality, then academic progress and classroom behaviors should trend in a positive direction alongside PE participation, skill execution, and overall enjoyment.
