Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My blended classroom consists of both bilingual-Spanish and monolingual-English students. 13 are bilingual and receive some instruction from me in Spanish and 10 are monolingual with Hispanic and African-American backgrounds. They are fascinated by each others differences, find many things in common, and always willing to help each other and work in collaboratively in small groups.

It's amazing to see these students embrace each others cultural differences and learn from each other when outside of school there is so much neighborhood violence.

They are truly special!

My Project

Our classroom offers places to learn in every corner. Desks and chairs are great for short periods of time, but my high energy 8 year olds need choice and a place to store their binders.

Some students will benefit from sitting on wobble chairs, others can sit with a lap desk on a nice educational carpet, work with me at a table, and use floor seats in other areas to work collaboratively and learn comfortably while completing projects and assignments.

Flexible seating provides opportunities for students to be independent and unconfined, while they are working. My students need to be moving while working.
