Help me give my students school supplies for rewards to attend tutoring. The pencils, erasers, calculators and snacks will help motivate students to attend tutoring to help their math skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are in 6-8th grade and attend an older Title 1 public middle school in Southern California. Title 1 schools are in areas with low socioeconomic areas and receive federal funding so all its students receive free or reduced lunch. We also service several homeless students in our area. Many of our students do not enjoy math when they come into our tutoring classes. They have many outside factors that distract learning. After Covid online instruction it has been a challenge to engage students and motivate them to learn in person. The tutoring is an opportunity for them to get extra help to fill in gaps.
Our student body is very diverse and supports a variety of cultures and languages.
Students in my tutoring class range from gifted and talented to students with learning disabilities, and everything in between. This project will help with the large number of students I am teaching through tutoring. My ultimate goal is to motivation of my students though rewards for attending and provide needed supplies to teach in person.
My Project
The pencils and lead will be used for daily learning. The treats purchased with the gift will be used to reward students who come before and after school for tutoring. After the student come multiple times a reward system will be in place so they can earn rewards such as the pencil sharpener, treats, erasers, pencils, lead and calculators. All of of the items will be given to students to motivate them to continue to fill the gaps in their learning.
All of our students need supplies and enjoy getting colorful pencils and erasers to use when learning their math.Small motivational items can make a big difference in their attitude towards math. I know that these items will help motivate my students.
