This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all working in a self-contained environment. Being such a small class, they have built great relationships with one another. They are kind and generous to one another. They have become like a family this year. They are amazing and resilient. Academically, my students are working at different levels.
They are making great growth as they work toward their goals.
We have students who started the year as non-readers who are now reading many sight words and short texts. There are students who couldn't read numbers who are now adding and subtracting! The students in this class are wonderfully wonderful.
My Project
My students are in a self-contained special education class. Most of these students perform well below their actual grade level. Helping them get lower level chapter books will boost their confidence in reading as they are generally reading on lower levels and there are not many options for lower level chapter books!
We would love these books to help us build confidence as readers and continue to grow this year!
