My Students

Do you remember reflecting on a variety of topics in school? Or maybe you still keep notes regarding thoughts, ideas, and stories you've heard that you want to share?

This year as I begin anew in a new school, with new students, and a new building.

I hope to bring new ideas and thoughts through written communication journals. I have used this writing technique in three classes last year and most students grasped the concept with open arms - it provided a form of critical thought, a place to reflect on the news/history around them, and share their innermost ideas through poetry, lyrics, art, and other forms of writing. For example, this type of journal writing allowed for even my quietest students to communicate freely/ask questions and gain a deeper understanding for the learning done both inside and outside of our classroom with having their teacher guiding the way.

My Project

Therefore, getting "jiggy" with the journal will allow for these students to open up and engage in research of historical events both past and present, understanding of the news and stories written by the media, share more about themselves, and enrich our classroom communication. My students will engage in creative, analytical, narrative, and research writing that will have them grow not only as a person, but provide them with the skills and critiques for preparation on tests like the PSSAs, SATs, and ACTs as well as essays in college.

By committing to my students you will feel like you've contributed to creating a whole student.

With the help of your donation students in my history classes will grow through their engagement in writing exercises, classroom communication, historical and primary source research and responses, and interpretive writing through media response. Students will gain citizenship and core writing skills through this project; in essence Give a Dollar (or More!) and Get "Jiggy" with US & Journal Writing!
