My Students
Our school is a fully funded Title I school located in a small rural community in middle Georgia. We serve a diverse ethnic population with 68 % of the total population receiving free and reduced lunch. My gifted students are culturally diverse and make up about 19% of the total population.
Our mission is to inspire, support, and prepare each student with a quality educational experience while building integrity and character to be successful and competitive in a global society.
My Project
My reluctant readers need diverse, high interest novels to meet the demands of a rigorous language arts curriculum. What better way to get them reading than through engaging graphic novels?!
Graphic novels give reluctant readers a sense of accomplishment and pride!
Students are able to tackle literature with confidence because the visual nature and format of the graphics makes even difficult or sensitive topics more relatable and helps students connect with the piece! The visual images in these novels is one of the best ways to turn my students into life-long readers.
These novels will also be used as mentor texts as I am teaching elements such as plot, character development, and theme.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
