My students need multiple flexible seating options, like yoga ball chairs, lap desks, and reclining chairs to meet their needs. Every student has a unique learning style and will benefit from different seating options.

My Students

"I can move while I learn?!" This question was asked by one of my students last year when they saw the new bike pedals that were being introduced as another one of our seating options. Watching students learn their own preferences and needs as learners at 8, 9, or 10 years old is a profound experience.

Our school serves intermediate students in a rural setting.

We provide students with collaborative and engaging instruction that focuses on the whole child. 4th grade in our building is comprised of approximately 150 students, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Our classrooms are their safe spaces to learn more than just academics - how to be a community member, how to interact socially, and that they are valuable and loved.

Our school serves children in grades 3-5 and is focused on developing individuals who will grow to be contributing members of their communities. Our mission is based on collaboration and we strive to incorporate the diversity present within our school and our community into our daily learning activities.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning. I began transitioning my classroom to flexible seating last year. I saw my students thrive as they learned to think about what makes them successful. Our greatest roadblock was the lack of options I was able to provide.

The yoga ball chairs, reclining chairs, and laptop stands will help me add choice to better meet my students' needs.

Movement will improve the quality of student learning. These resources will give my students the opportunity to move while they learn, develop executive functioning skills, and be more productive in the classroom.
