My name is Darrian Brown and I will be the Art Therapy teacher at RELES this upcoming school year. This is a new program that will serve both typical and non-typical students in art. I will serve the students who are in the self-contained classroom separate and integrated with our typical students. We are hoping to create a space where ALL students feel accepted and have an outlet to express themselves. Since our program is brand new, we are in need of supplies and technology that will be made possible through outside help. I would love to see our classroom grow into something amazing that serves all students on all levels.
The arts are universal and benefit ALL students.
By creating this program, we are hoping to provide our students with a creative outlet that has been missing from our school. We serve students from PreK-6th grade and have nearly 800 students. Our school system is always looking for ways to better serve our students and this program is going to be something amazing!
My Project
Our students need some of the essentials to be successful in this program. This project includes markers, crayons, pencils, paints, and modeling dough. With these materials, our students will participate in creative projects where they will be allowed and encouraged to express themselves like never before. We will be able to do things like create self-portraits, create works inspired by famous artists, design models of future cities, and build sculptures of imagined things.
The Arts are universal and serve every type of student.
Our school is diverse and needs an outlet for students to express themselves. Using these materials, our students will be able to do this like never before. Our students with special needs will be able to teach and learn from their typical peers in this class. Our Art therapy class will be inclusive and a safe space for students to express their ideas.
