Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are busy energetic preschoolers who love to have choices and get a little messy. Having a variety of supplies satisfies this need, and entices more children because they can choose between paint and playdough or tissue paper. They can choose glue or materials that have adhesive. Making these choices develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This will help them enjoy arts and crafts and spend more time with this very important activity.
I strive to create a classroom with multiple ways for students to explore, develop and express themselves.
Arts and crafts provides an opportunity for them to work independently or with a friend to create a picture, 3-dimensional structure or whatever comes to their mind. It provides an opportunity for me ask open ended questions like Tell me about your picture and stimulate conversation and language. I have several children who have language delays and this is a safe and non-verbal outlet for children to express their emotions and feelings.
My goal is for every child to spend time at the arts and crafts table. I have chosen these materials after years of observing what motivates children to come to the arts and craft area frequently and which supplies are used up first. These new craft supplies will enhance the overall development of my students’ communication, exploration, creativity, fine motor skills, and collaboration and help them enjoy arts and crafts.
Your generous support will help ensure that each child can experience this hands-on, engaging approach to learning, and help to foster a positive relationship with art that lasts a lifetime. Together, we can make learning a fun and rewarding adventure for every preschool student!
