This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My twenty-two second and third graders are eager to learn and excited about using technology in the classroom. They come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Many of my students receive free lunch or are eligible for lunch at a reduced cost.
My biggest challenge this year will be finding a way to meet the needs of all of my students, especially since I am teaching two grade levels.
A majority of my students are performing at their respective grade-level, but I also have some students who are performing above grade-level and some who are struggling and are performing below grade-level. I am going to need to challenge my higher performing students while also giving extra support to those who are struggling. I intend to use technology as a tool to address the learning needs of all my students.
My Project
I have been fortunate to have received four laptops for my classroom computer lab. We use the laptops daily. I use them for lesson presentations. My students use the laptops for practicing Math or Language Arts content, conducting research, improving their keyboarding skills, or typing their writing. I do what I can to help my students practice grade-level content while also becoming more computer literate.
Receiving two iPads will allow my students additional access to technology while also exposing them to a form of technology that I do not already have available in my classroom.
My intention is to use the iPads similarly to how I already use my laptops. The main difference is that the iPads will be easier to take to different parts of the classroom. My students will be able to sit at their desk or grab a cushion and find a place where they are comfortable. I really want them to enjoy using technology as a learning tool.
