My students need bookcases, bean bag chairs, and a rug for a comfortable place to sit to read their favorite books. I want to see them out of their desks and relaxing as they escape into a book.

My Students

Our district is in a small town. We have incredible support of our community and parents, but resources are not always readily available.

I am responsible for 52 students in social studies and literacy, and 49 students for speech communication.

Our school has a wonderful school climate and a very diverse population of students, including students from the Lummi Tribe. We have free and reduced-price lunch rate of 42.2%. We also house a Life Skills program, as well as a Behavior program in our building.

My Project

Students need a comfortable place to sit and read their favorite books. During the day they are asked to sit in desks and to be hunched over their desks. I feel very strongly that students need alternate places to relax and read.

I have a vision for a comfortable corner where students can relax and escape into their favorite book.

Students will have access to books placed neatly on shelves. A colorful rug on the floor, a corner lamp, and comfortable seating will allow students to enjoy their time reading. I know that this space will be used by all students.
