Help me give my students various sensory input options to submerge themselves in, like tactile, visual and olfactory, that will regulate their bodies in order for them to be ready to learn.
In my classroom, we are a family made up of 5 students and 3 staff. We are a mixture of different sizes, shapes, colors and abilities -- yet all with the potential to learn and grow.
In my classroom, progress isn't always measured on paper.
Sometimes, progress is measured by positive affect, communication attempts and social interactions. But for my students, that is easier said than done.
Why? Because my students crave sensory input; music, colors, textures, smells, movement and pressure are some of their favorites. When their bodies are regulated, well, that's when the learning magic begins and the progress is made.
My Project
Having these awesome materials like the colorful water beads, play dough and tools, gooey slime and kinetic sand will give my students access to engaging hands-on options during our scheduled sensory block each day. In our sensory lounge, the Bubble Tube Floor Lamp will help create a calming atmosphere for when they need to take a break from their rigorous learning. The light filters that cover the ceiling lights will reduce eyestrain, tension, and anxiety caused by bright fluorescent lights.
I can't wait to see the positive behavior changes in my students from all of these new items!
