This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an amazing Title I school where 85% of our students come from a low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students. The passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. I work with children with special needs in grades K through 5th. My students are loving and kind and have real determination. I strive to teach them the skills they need to be active participants in our community.
My Project
For some children, learning to write is hard. It doesn’t come easily and the output may be messy. Handwriting challenges can present in different ways. Using a thin or regular pencil or crayons can be complicated when hand muscles are underdeveloped.
Help me provide chunky pencils, pencil grips, large crayons, triangular crayons, and jumbo glue sticks to enable my students with special needs to be successful.
These materials will make a difference because the students will have a greater opportunity for success. These materials will be used for in person learning but could be used for virtual learning as well.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
