This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Mixed Media artform is one that is being embraced by my class of creative 5th graders. Although much of it is quite literally upcycled trash; making that trash come together to be a stunning piece of art takes time, creativity, and lots and lots of paint, adhesive and gloss.

With this campaign, we are hoping fund our most needed tools of the trade; black and white gesso, and heavy and soft body gels.

These are the most consumable tools in turning our trash to treasure. The students are learning how a dented spoon or a broken toy can be turned into a magical and beautiful piece of art.

Why is this important? Well, we live in a society of disposable everything which is a waste of resources and takes up so much space in our landfills. By rescuing items that are considered trash to some, my students are learning how everything, no matter how broken it looks or seems, can be transformed into something worthy of admiring. It is also helping us understand how this is true for humans as well. No one is every truly useless or disposable, no matter how broken they appear to be. Help my students spread this message.
