My Project
The majority of my 21 students come from military families. They move around a lot and often love coming to Hawaii because of our unique culture. They have worked really hard to make our classroom a harmonious one. They do what they need to do but could do with some fidgets to help build their stamina during instructional and independent work time. My students love read aloud time but need more guidance to read by themselves for longer than 5-10 minutes. They often return borrowed books without reading the entire book. Having books to guide them through novel studies will increase their comprehension and vocabulary to help them learn to enjoy reading.
I would love to be able to instill a love of reading and STEM exploration learning in my students.
I want to get them excited about science by having them be able to look closely at leaves, insects, their hands before washing and after with the microscopes. Because of Covid, they are now aware of the importance of hand washing but if they can see the germs, it will be so much more impactful. They will also be learning about what engineers do and will be able to see how energy is transferred to make things work and move with the STEM kits. With these activities, they will need sharp pencils, highlighters, and dry erase pens to write down their thinking and/or draw their results. I want to ensure that my students are well-rounded so I am asking for some board games to teach them how to think strategically and to learn to play with others.
