We define resilience in our classroom as always trying our best especially since we are lacking.
Our school is centrally located in a low-income neighborhood of Brownsville, where educational resources are not always available to our students. However, my students don't let their environment or labels define their education or potential.
Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
In our students’ eyes, we are ‘Superheroes’. ‘Everyday Heroes’ who miraculously are expected to transform and reshape cognitive minds in the classroom. It is sometimes possible to reach daily goals when we have setbacks to provide their daily classroom materials e.g storybooks, pencils, paper, cleaning supplies, etc.
My Project
We strongly believe having a clean classroom is a big part of what makes a good and effective school for teaching and learning.
Our students find it easier to focus on tasks when everything is clean and organized.
We will be using the Disinfecting wipes, baby wipes, Bounty towels to keep students desk and centers germ free.
Though we have always strived to keep our classroom free from germs, Covid-19 have encouraged us to continuously be at our best in practicing healthy habits for ourselves and others.
During reading, writing and math workshop students turn and talk with each other, give each other feedback and use expo markers to share their wonderings and thinkings on their goal pads. Having their own individual writing supplies prevent the spread of germs.
Our reading library is beautifully decorated with a LED light up"READ" sign that uses batteries to motivate our young learners.
The laminating sheets will be used to keep bookmarks, and anchor charts easy to wipe away germ contact while providing durability.
Practicing these healthy habits will keep us teachers and our students from getting sick- which will reduce the times we may have to miss school days and learning.
