My Students

My students are highly active and super fun. They love work that is hands-on, especially when it's outdoors.

As a teacher, I strive to bring big concepts to their local experience so that they appreciate their world around them and the learning will continue even when they are not in school.

We try to think critically to dig deeper into the subject areas through project based learning.

All children learn more when they are doing and not just seeing or hearing. My students engage the most when they get to build, experience, experiment and tinker. They are working on honest self evaluation and producing quality products.

My Project

As part of our expedition about Medieval times and the Age of Exploration we will be learning about the protective features castles had and the progression of the materials they used.

Groups of students will have to design and build a model of a castle, using these building bricks.

We will tie in real world math concepts such as finding the the surface area and volume of complex geometric shapes. The students will have to come up with a building budget that includes land purchase, materials, and labor costs. The students will have to keep an account of the money spent to build their castle.

There will also be some argumentative writing to explain how their castle is the strongest design with all of the protective features, for the best price.
