Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade teacher in an elementary school in Vallejo CA. One of our major math units each year is geometry. The students love this subject and usually grasp the concepts quickly and successfully. It is a major part of preparation for middle school as well as large component on the state testing. In order to teach this area of mathematics well, we need the proper equipment! That includes good, sturdy protractors, clear rulers with both metric and customary units and compasses and materials to illustrate solids and prisms. I would ask for a complete fifth grade set of these materials. At present, we have approximately 75 fifth graders. These supplies would be used by all fifth graders for as long as they last. Our school is a California Distinguished School. In spite of the low economic levels of most of our students, they are among the best students in the city, with the highest attendance levels of all schools here in Vallejo. I know this is because of the strong parental support and creative teaching we enjoy here. Adding these up-to-date, durable supplies will be a strong asset to our math program.
