Geometric Manipulatives What's the Area of That Pyramid?
Help me give my students Magnetic geometric manipulatives to help with understanding how to find the surface area of prisms and pyramids. Student white boards would are to work math equations so I can check for correct calculations.

My Students
I have a great group of students this year. They are all in a Chinese dual immersion program and I am the english partner that teaches them Math, Reading, Writing, and Science. They are very positive, curious, and fun. They love to learn and are pretty competitive with each other. They have been together ever since 1st grade, and they know each other very well, so their competitiveness is friendly.
They like anything that has to do with Math and Science.
A lot of the students that are on the Math team at our school come from the immersion program. They have a great understanding of numbers, and at times ask me if equations can be solved in a different way than what I taught them. Sometimes they show me different ways to look at numbers. They are curious in Science as well, and I can see many having careers in Math, Technology, Science and Engineering.
My Project
6th grade math core includes finding that area of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. Once the students have mastered that, they learn to apply what they know about area to find the area of solid surface figures such as prisms and pyramids.
Often students cannot see that pyramids and prisms are made up of parallelograms and triangles and this is where geometric manipulatives come in handy!
Students can break apart a square, triangular, or rectangular pyramid, a triangular or rectangular prism manipulative to be able to see what measurements are to be calculated. The white boards show me their work in real time.
