My Project
My students lack some of the tools needed in order to succeed in my classroom, and I hope to make Geometry more accessible and understandable to my Geometry students.
The products I have requested help ensure that my students are ready to engage with math on a daily basis!
Some of the biggest challenges I face as a teacher in Hawaii are...
1) A lack of supplies for students
2) The inability to use Geometry software to aid in my instruction
The lack of supplies consists of students not having pencils or notebooks for class. Kids from lower SES ask for a blank piece of paper and borrow and pencil from me every day of class. They aren't able to keep their math notes organized in a notebook, because they don't even have a notebook. I can't afford to buy each of my students a pencil and notebook, but this would be a great opportunity for that to happen! Also, with COVID, kids want to have good hygiene. While my school does provide hand sanitizer for kids, I do not have access to any facial tissues for my students or myself during the day. Again, I can't afford to buy them myself. Right now we have to use rough paper towels as tissues. It's not fun, and the kids hate it. We also are short on some basic math supplies for Geometry, as well as other classroom needs.
In Geometry, we have a new curriculum that allows you to move and edit geometric shapes within their software, but it is nearly impossible to do on a laptop. You really need an iPad in order to utilize this function. I have wanted to use it during my instruction, but again, I can't afford an iPad.
