My students need a roller map to be able to spatially visualize where events in world history have happened and understand the relationship between history and geography

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"This is England" when pointing at Australia. Or "Africa is a country". "Isn't India near America?"
All these are true statements from 10th grade students.
My students are great young people coming from the four corners of New York City.
Our school is a Title 1 public school with about 90% of students receiving federal founding for free lunches. Most of them are highly motivated to do well, to graduate from high school with the highest GPA possible, and go to college ready to be successful.
One major challenge that we face is that their educational background through elementary school and middle school is pretty weak, mostly because of lack of materials due to poor funding, lack of good experienced teachers, lack of positive and enriching learning environments, and lack of resources at home to enhance learning at school.
So they start high school with a major handicap in knowledge and resources to bridge the achievement gap with students from wealthier areas.
My Project
One area where students are particularly behind some of their peers nationwide, and certainly many of their peers globally, is geographic knowledge. Many of them have difficulties reading a simple map because they have never really been taught how to use one. Many have not had classrooms in the past with maps, or teachers that would refer to maps in context.
A challenge that we have in 10th grade is that students have a very little understanding of where things are located in relation to each other and where events take place.
Research shows that many students are visual learners and spacial learners.
This is why I am asking for resources to purchase a roller map that will help me show students as many times as possible where events happen and how geography has such a huge impact on history. I am convinced that it will raise student interest, and student understand of a very tough comprehensive curriculum that covers 5000 years of history over every continent.
This project will make a huge difference in the students' understanding of global history and geography.
It will help them become more successful in the immediate future (by passing the global history and geography regents exam, which is a graduation requirement). It will also help them become more aware of the world around them, and help them become more prepared to face the challenges of higher education and a global world.
