This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting sports equipment for my students. They need footballs, basketballs, flags for flag football, and the mesh carriers for this equipment. I will be using this equipment for my Genius Hour. I work at a school that is TOPS. This means that we have an extended day and at the end of the day we have a program where students are able to explore their hobbies and interests as well as learn new skills. This is intended to inspire them to be physically active. My genius hour is Outside Sports where I teach them fundamentals, team work, sportsmanship, and how to play different sports. My students would benefit from receiving new equipment because they deserve to play with equipment that is not battered, borrowed or beaten. By having this new equipment they will be learning an additional skill of responsibility by means of taking care of it. This can inspire them to be part of an extracurricular activity. We are a low socioeconomic school and this will give them an opportunity to be part of an afterschool program that they would not be able to afford.
