My Students
I teach in a middle class school in the suburbs of Houston. I had several students displaced by Hurricane Harvey, and many more still living in damaged homes. Approximately 20% of our school is economically disadvantaged. I have 5 ESL students in my classes.
My students are curious, energetic, and extremely creative.
They have a desire to keep excelling in their learning and to find new ways to share their thinking with their peers, often through video and PowerPoint presentations. Their quest for knowledge keeps me looking for ways to engage them more and more.
My Project
The five iPads will give my students access to the technology to research a topic and then design a digital based presentation to share their learning. They will be used on a daily basis in Reading to assist my students in comprehension activities as well as having access to audio books/e-books. Book recommendations, character analysis, summaries, and interactive reading journals are just some of the activities my students will participate in.
Providing technology for my students will help build a community of lifelong learners in the age of technology.
The iPads will also be used daily for Writing and Spelling activities. My struggling writers will have access to online dictionaries and spelling activities. All students will be able to use the iPads to type their writing assignments and have a way to save them for future editing and revision.
