My students need to learn about genetics in a fun and exciting way. "The Stuff of Life: A Graphic Guide to Genetics and DNA" does just that! They need 24 copies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Mom, why does everyone in our family have the same nose?" "Dad, what's DNA?" Young people are fascinated by genetics, but learning the scientific principles behind heredity can be confusing and difficult. Through reading this graphic novel, students will gain a greater understanding of genetics!
My students are curious teenagers who want to know more about genetics and DNA.
They range in age from 15-16 and are very interested in how traits are inherited. They live in South Central Los Angeles and attend a public school in a high-poverty area.
My Project
"The Stuff of Life: A Graphic Guide to Genetics and DNA" is a great book that explains how traits are inherited, the laws of Gregor Mendel and how the message in DNA becomes a trait through the process of protein synthesis. I plan to have students read this book in class as a supplement to the textbook so that they can more fully understand these sometimes confusing concepts.
Reading a textbook can sometimes be a frustrating way for students to comprehend the subject, but most students love reading graphic novels.
By making the subject fun and exciting, this book will keep them engaged and make learning more fun. Years later, my students will remember the biology class they took where they got to read a graphic novel as an assignment! And they will also remember the cool and relevant concepts of genetics!
