Do you remember how much you love Bill Nye? The children in my classroom have yet to understand the beauty of his work. Being that he is such an original, I thought he would be a great segway into the students learning about their unique genetic qualities!
The students in my 7th grade science classroom are thirsty for knowledge.
Attending a college prep school and handling school days that last from 8 am to 5 pm we have time to expand on many science topics. There is no better way for them to understand genetics than them actually looking at their own! The students are in a low income area, and our resources are limited. They appreciate anything they can get their hands on!
My Project
The materials that I am seeking include books and experiments to expand my students' learning on the topics of genetics. It is so important for them to have a hands on approach to this topic so that they become invested in themselves. At this stage of adolescence anything to help them understand themselves will not only help them in the science classroom but in life!
Please consider how difficult it may be to learn about genetics in a purely lecture format.
By providing these materials to my knowledge thirsty students, you are ensuring that they can grasp the concepts as well as have a little bit of fun! What better way to understand yourself than licking test paper to see if you exhibit certain traits!
