This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching in a Title 1 school, many of my students are used to being the recipients of others' generosity. They often think that they are too young or struggling too much to give back to their community. We are going to change all that!

My students have decided to take on a community service project to make fidget quilts for our local memory care facility.

They will work to sew the quilts in the classroom. They have researched the community's needs and are in the process of finding out what supplies are needed to create these quilts for our elderly community. The students will then learn to sew the quilts and complete at least 6 (maybe more) quilts to donate to the memory care facility.

We hope to prove that the younger generations (third and fourth graders) are ready and willing to help our aging generations with compassion and love.
