My students need three iPods to improve reading fluency, and accuracy, in English Language Arts work stations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine the joy of hearing literature read by the author, or by talented actors! But consider the challenge faced by my students: our aging listening center is cassette-based. My students want to hear digital recordings of their favorite books.
My second grade students attend a Title I school in California.
Most are English Language Learners, and many struggle with reading fluency and accuracy. They love to read, and they love hearing literature read aloud. Listening centers provide the opportunity to hear fluently read stories. Unfortunately, outdated classroom equipment has left my 21st Century students behind the times. They are familiar with modern technology, but lack access to it in their classroom.
My Project
It's no secret that 21st Century learners love technology. The iPod grabs the attention of today's students, inspiring them to engage in literacy activities. Listening centers are a perennially popular choice for kids during independent work time. They are also a powerful tool in teaching children how to read fluently, increase accuracy, and improve inflection. The funding of our project will ensure that my students can learn from our digital collection of recorded books.
Listening centers have so many benefits.
They inspire kids to love reading! Children hear fluently-read literature, which helps develop their own fluency. Students of all reading levels can access books of varying difficulties. Additionally, choice is important to kids; three separate listening centers give them options during independent work time. Ultimately, a donation of modern listening centers will truly reach these 21st Century Learners.
