Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students represent the broadest possible cross-section of our community. We are a choice school, not an attendance area school. Families choose our school because we are the first public STEM, K-8 school developed in our rural border county.

We are not a school for gifted students, enrollment is not selective, but on a first-come-first-serve basis; we have students from across the full spectrum of abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and demographics.

Like effectively everyone else across the U.S., we are dealing with the current public health crisis; we are teaching to students physically present with us in the classroom, and their peers in the virtual learning environment at the same time. We try to integrate the scientific method and the engineering design process into all that we do. We apply a trans-disciplinary approach to all subjects and seek to maximize student engagement and empowerment at every opportunity.

My Project

Learning works best when we give students different methods of instruction. Technology has been a great tool this way so that classroom teachers aren't having to reinvent the wheel.

Generation Genius will serve more than 700 students in all grades to practice reading and science in fun, standards based ways.

Videos show experiments that we can't recreate. Different levels of reading are available, along with quizzes to check for understanding. Once we discovered this resource (along with it's very reasonable price) we have been looking for a way to get access for our students.
