My students need access to maps and atlases that have up to date information as well as folders, crayons and a printer. Items like the document camera will allow me to project content when resources are limited.

My Students
My students in general have a limited understanding of the world around them. As an educator, specifically a Social Studies teacher, it is my duty to fill that gap. When introducing new material to my students, they are engaged and wanting to know more about people and cultures they may never see.
My students are predominantly from high poverty areas with low educational attainment.
Through my instruction, I deliver the importance of education and organization. My students need additional assistance in these areas in order to begin to compete with students and schools with access to such basic resources as updated textbooks.
Portfolio folders and crayons will assist my class with creating their interactive notebooks for learning purposes. Additionally, a document camera, printer and ink allow me to disseminate and share resources with my class quickly.
My students, like most students, love interactive activities. They love exploring different cultures while understanding how people in general are all connected. As a Social Studies teacher I have the opportunity to feed those desires within my students. Unfortunately, like many schools we have limited to no access to efficiently functioning resources that would allow my students to have the educational experience they deserve.
My Project
My class lacks some basic resources such as up to date maps, atlases and other material that would make instruction more efficient. As a first year teacher, I have identified 1 major obstacle that has definitely impacted my students ability to properly prepare themselves. Overall, they lack basic organization skills which is essential in any environment. In a Social Studies class without updated textbooks, maps, or atlases, my students need to maintain access to everything they receive in class for future reference.
The resources I am seeking would allow me to efficiently create interactive notebooks with my students as well as provide accurate information as we explore geographic regions in Africa, Southwest and Southeast Asia. My students are expected to obtain the same level of understanding without having had access to the same materials. Every little bit helps and I am confident that in due time we will have the resources we need to properly prepare for success!
Funding for the resources my students need will help close a portion of the gap we encounter when our access to resources do not meet our need.
I believe this would be a big step in the right direction to begin making positive changes in my class as well as in the minds of my students.
