This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love coming to school to learn and grow. We work hard from the time they arrive until the bell rings. They are trying to catch up to peers in wealthier communities and meet the high expectations we have for them. They cannot learn unless we are providing materials and experiences for them to do so.
I teach in a diverse, urban neighborhood school where many students are learning how to be safe and respected.
My school is a Title I school and every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Many students come from families that cannot provide all the essentials for back to school. Some families try to provide what they can, but we need to share materials inside the classroom. Please help us to start off 2017 - 2018 in the best way possible - Learning!
My Project
In third grade we will be starting the year with the necessary supplies. My students need help organizing their desks and the folders will be used to separate different subject areas for easy organization. While they are "the big kids in the school building", they are just beginning to feel responsible for their own school supplies and desks. Students will use the pencils, notebooks, glue sticks and dry erase markers to begin learning. I often use whiteboards and dry erase markers for small group learning and independent activities because I can see what the students are thinking. The index cards are used for just about everything from organizing desks to playing new games.
