Gearing Up For Guided Reading

My students need whiteboards, erasers, book boxes, reading strips and highlighter tape for guided reading and independent workstations.

My Students

My students have vastly different backgrounds and all bring a fresh perspective to our learning environment. We have a large English Language Learning population at my suburban school. Different cultures are represented along with different learning styles. Our school services students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, we host a large variety of English Language Learners and have a population of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

We have an interactive classroom where everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and learn from each other.

We can often be found working with partners, small groups, as a whole group or independently. I teach twenty-seven, lively first graders who enjoy movement, song and activity throughout the day.

My Project

We would love new supplies for guided reading and literacy work stations. Our current book bags are ripped and falling apart. We do not have the supplies we need for guided reading and literacy work stations.

Book boxes, highlighter tape, sentence strips and magnetic whiteboards would help improve our literacy work-stations.

We would like book boxes to store our read-to-self-books in. We would also like supplies for reading to someone. We need highlighter tape to highlight words when we are reading with a friend. We also need magnetic whiteboards so we can write and use letter magnets when we are doing our work on words stations. When we are working on reading with a teacher, sentence strips would help us track our reading and improve our focus.
