This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a public magnet school. All students grades 6th - 12th our apart of the JROTC program. We are a Title I school and 100% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in the northern part of the historic city of Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston County School District is the second-largest in the state with the highest teacher salary but funding for athletics are is mainly supported by each school. Funding for athletics is generated through money collected at the gate. Being one of the smallest schools money earned at the gate barely cover security, officials, and feeding the athletes.
I aspire to make the school team a better and provide our students with up-to-date equipment & opportunities to attend camps like students attending larger, well-funded schools.
My Project
I am the head football coach for middle school and high school. Some student-athletes do not have the best living or financial situation, yet they come to school ready and prepared for whatever comes their way. I always tell my kids they can be whatever they want to be in life as long as they continue to work hard for it and never give up.
Donations for this project will allow the players to have the proper equipment to prepare them to be successful on the playing field.
Donations will also help supplement for other needs of the team like travel and team meals. I look forward to my students feeling like they also play for a big-time program.
