My Project
What I love most about my AP Literature students is their willingness to engage deeply with complex ideas and challenge traditional narratives. They ask thoughtful questions, make unexpected connections, and are always eager to explore literature beyond the surface. Their curiosity and critical thinking make every discussion richer and more dynamic. They’re not afraid to push back on established interpretations, and that fearlessness is exactly what great literature demands.
Giving them access to a modern retelling of The Great Gatsby from Daisy’s perspective offers a powerful opportunity to reexamine the story through a new lens—one that highlights gender, voice, and power in ways that the original text only hints at.
It will encourage my students to consider narrative reliability, authorial intent, and the cultural forces that shape both character and reader perception. Seeing the same world from Daisy’s eyes allows for meaningful discussions about silenced voices and shifting perspectives—skills that are crucial not only for AP exams, but for becoming more thoughtful, analytical readers and citizens.
