This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Having a meeting area where students come together promotes collaboration, respect and community. We are a class with diverse needs, including many with sensory processing disorders. A comfortable meeting area has always been the heart of our classroom where we can share ideas and learn about the world. Due to the pandemic, our cozy area no longer has a rug and has been replaced with the cold, tile floor.
We ask for your help in purchasing a rug for our meeting area to create a safe and comfortable place for learning.
Prior to COVID, many lessons took place together on a rug which provided comfort and clear boundaries to maintain personal space. Due to the pandemic, our classroom rug was removed for safety. Now that we are able to gather again on the floor, we have learned that the rugs were damaged and could not be replaced. We know the value of having a class meeting area, but our only option now is to have our students sit on the cold floor. Our school is not in a position to purchase one for us so we ask for your help.
